From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephen Nikola Bartulica (born 23 May 1970) is a Croatian politician of the Homeland Movement, serving as member of the Croatian Parliament since 2020.[1] He was elected as a member of the European Parliament for Croatia in 2024.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Bartulica was born on 23 May 1970 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Croatian parents. His father was a psychiatrist, Nikola Bartulica, from Split, and his mother was from Vinkovci.[3] His father was one of the first psychiatrists who examined seers at the apparitions at Medjugorje, in October 1981. After questioning, he said that he had no doubt that the apparitions were real.[4]

He earned a degree in political science at the University of Missouri and a doctorate in political philosophy and ethics at the Pontifical Gregorian University.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Bartulica is married and has four sons. He has three younger brothers and a sister. Two of his brothers are ordained priests in the Roman Catholic Church. One of them, Angelo Bartulica, is a priest of the Diocese of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina.[5] Bartulica himself is a lay member of Opus Dei.[6]

Political views[edit]

Bartulica is conservative. He was active in Croatia's referendum on the definition of marriage and opposed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. He defines his political priorities as: ''the protection family and rights of parents to decide on the education of their children, safe borders and stricter rules on asylum, as well as the protection of farmers from ridiculous regulations''. [6]
