"Nasty" is a song by American singer and songwriter Tinashe. It was released on April 12, 2024, via her independent record label, Tinashe Music Inc. & Nice Life Recording Company. The song's release coincided with her performance at the 2024 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.[1] The song serves as the lead single of her upcoming seventh studio album Quantum Baby. It was written by Tinashe, and Ricky Reed and produced by Zack Sekoff alongside Reed.

Background[edit]

Tinashe initially teased the song on a livestream via her Instagram on Valentine's Day 2024. On April 3, Tinashe signed a worldwide publishing deal with Position Music, obtaining the publishing rights to her future releases from that point forward and her previous album BB/Ang3l.[2] She officially teased her upcoming seventh studio album titled "BB/Ang3l Pt.2 - Quantum Baby" with a trailer posted to her social media accounts on April 8. BB/Ang3l Pt. 2 - Quantum Baby is confirmed the to serve as the second installment of an album trilogy. The following day she officially announced the single set to drop that Friday. In an interview with Forbes, "Nasty" was dubbed as "perfect pre-summer song". She stated “I really wanted to have that energy going into the season, just feeling like I want to have fun, be outside, get sweaty, get nasty, party energy all year... I think it's kind of all been leading up to this, and I haven't had a release in the summer in a while. So I'm really excited to be rolling it out in this way”.[3]

Music video[edit]

The accompanying music video was released the same day as the single, on April 12, 2024. It was directed Jonah Haber and choreographed by long-time collaborator Jojo Gomez. This is Tinashe's second music video to be directed by Haber, the first being "HMU For a Good Time". This serves as Gomez's third choreographed music video with Tinashe, with the previous two being "HMU For a Good Time" in 2022 and "Company" in 2017. The video ended on a cliffhanger, with the end displaying the phrase "/2.B Continued".

Live performance[edit]

Tinashe performed the song live for the first time at the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 12 and 19.[4]
