David Calloway Ross, Jr. (September 24, 1948 – October 14, 2020)

Early life[edit]

David Calloway Ross, Jr. was born on September 24, 1948, in St. Louis, MO, the first child and only son of Lillie B. Lewis-Ross and David Calloway Ross Sr. David arrived in Montgomery shortly after birth and remained a lifelong resident. Early days of formal training and education included high school at Laboratory High-Alabama State College. He earned a degree in Business Management from Tuskegee Institute[1] and soon after left for service in the US Air Force which ordered a year's tour in Thailand.[2]

President of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home[edit]

Ross succeeded his father as the President of the Ross-Clayton Funeral Home in 1978[3] and served the company and the community for over four decades.[4][5]

Achievements[edit]

Other achievements include Graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Atlanta, GA, Certification by The US Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards, Served Two Terms on the Alabama Board of Funeral Service, Member St. John's AME Church, Youth Member Dexter Baptist Church (Baptized by D.r Martin Luther King Jr.), Member Epsilon Nu Delta Mortician's Fraternity, Member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Member NFD&MA and AFD&MA. David succeeded his father, Calloway Ross Sr. as the corporation's third President in 1978.

Death[edit]

Ross died on October 14, 2020.[6][7] His funeral services were held on October 16, 2020, with public visitation on October 17, 2020, and the funeral on October 18, 2020.[8]
